How We Create & Verify Our Guides
Wa Story editorial policy
At The Wa Story, our goal is simple: to help you travel in Japan with cultural confidence—not just with a checklist. To do that, we follow a clear, repeatable method for every guide, itinerary, and tool we publish.
Our Mission: Culture-First Travel
We focus on the “why” behind places, traditions, and everyday life.
Instead of listing spots, we explain how Japanese culture shapes what you see and how people live—so you can travel more deeply and more comfortably.
Who Creates Our Content
The Wa Story is edited and written by a small culture-focused team based in Japan. When we work with guest contributors or local specialists, their roles are clearly noted on the page.
What We Publish (and What We Don’t)
We publish:
- Cultural guides that explain time, space, rituals, crafts, and seasonal life in Japan
- Itineraries designed around cultural rhythm (not only location efficiency)
- Seasonal stories connected to real travel decisions
- Trip-planning tools that help you personalize cultural travel
We do not publish:
- Clickbait travel lists without cultural context
- Unverified rumors or social-media trends presented as fact
- Paid recommendations that we cannot stand behind culturally
How We Research
Each guide is built from a mix of:
- First-hand observation and lived experience in Japan
- Japanese-language sources (museum notes, local publications, official sites)
- Academic or historical references when the topic needs depth
- Cross-checking multiple sources whenever details vary by region or year
We prioritize primary or official sources for:
- Festival dates and locations
- Seasonal forecasts
- Museum, shrine, and temple information
- Craft heritage and regional traditions
How We Design Cultural Itineraries
Our itineraries are not “fast routes.”
They are cultural walks designed around:
- The layers of the city (main streets → backstreets → local life)
- Daily rhythm (morning/afternoon/evening meaning in Japanese life)
- Seasonal atmosphere and local events
- Practical comfort for travelers (pace, transportation, rest points)
We test itineraries against:
- Cultural coherence (does the route tell a meaningful story?)
- Real-world travel flow (is it realistic and enjoyable?)
- Seasonal suitability (does it match the time of year?)
Fact-Checking and Updates
Japan changes constantly—open hours, rules, event schedules, even local customs.
To keep guides accurate:
- We review high-traffic seasonal pages every year before peak seasons
- We update pages when official sources change
- We note uncertainty when a detail cannot be confirmed reliably
If you spot a possible error, please tell us. We take corrections seriously.
Independence, Affiliations, and Revenue
Some pages may include affiliate links or partner references.
This never changes our recommendations.
We only recommend:
- Places and experiences that fit our culture-first standard
- Options we would personally choose or confidently suggest to a close friend
Affiliate income helps keep The Wa Story running and allows us to create deeper cultural resources.
Thank you for supporting independent cultural publishing.
Corrections Policy
If we confirm an error:
- We correct it as soon as possible
- We update the page clearly
- For major corrections, we note what changed
